About
The Z NYC Hotel, now permanently closed, once offered a unique blend of modern comfort and breathtaking views in Long Island City. Its prime location, just across the East River from Manhattan, ensured guests were never far from the vibrant energy of the city while enjoying a more relaxed atmosphere.
Guests often spoke fondly of the hotel’s remodel, highlighting how the clean, contemporary design of the rooms contributed to a pleasant stay. The incredible skyline views from the accommodation were consistently praised, with many reflecting on the memorable moments they enjoyed while gazing out over one of the most iconic cityscapes in the world.
Tom Costanza, a loyal visitor, mentioned having stayed at Z NYC Hotel multiple times over 34 years. His heartfelt appreciation for the friendly and courteous staff showcased the hotel's commitment to hospitality. Despite a few suggestions for improvement, like the addition of in-room coffee, his overall experience encapsulated the warm and inviting atmosphere Z NYC aimed to create for its guests.
In addition to the rooms, the hotel boasted a rooftop bar, The Cellar Bar, which attracted not just guests but also locals seeking the perfect spot to unwind with stunning views. Carrie Mae's review of the bar highlighted that, even for those not staying at the hotel, it was a destination worth visiting. The easy access from the subway made it an appealing option for those wanting to escape the bustle of Manhattan.
The amenities also contributed to a well-rounded experience. A complimentary continental breakfast provided guests with a variety of light yet satisfying options, allowing them to start their day on a positive note. However, feedback indicated that while the overall cleanliness could be improved, the helpful staff made every effort to address any issues that arose during guests’ stays.
Despite its closure, the Z NYC Hotel leaves behind a legacy of memorable stays filled with breathtaking views and warm encounters. For those fortunate enough to have experienced it, the combination of modern amenities and classic New York charm created an escape that felt both special and accessible. The echoes of laughter, toast clinks at the bar, and conversations enjoyed from the rooftop will surely be missed, painting a bittersweet picture of what once was.
“ I’ve stayed here about a half dozen times over the last 3-4 years and always enjoyed it. I was pleasantly surprised to see the great, new remodel to the rooms. Clean, bright and contemporary. The view is, as always, unbeatable. The staff is friendly and courteous. Two suggestions: 1) How about in-room coffee? I love a cup before I get moving in the morning. 2) And this one is almost a dealbreaker - I like a hot breakfast in the morning! The buffet is very well done. Fresh fruit, bagels, the works. But I’d rather not pay the $25 added to the bill and get some eggs, etc. for breakfast like I used to be able to get here. I miss that. Disappointing for a hotel that otherwise exceeds expectations. ”
“ Very cool hotel. Amazing skyline view from room. Very clean minus the half eaten chocolate covered strawberries in the mini bar. At check out we mentioned the half eaten strawberries and they waved the $25 a night fee which was very cool of them. The free continental breakfast was great, nice tea, bagels, danishes, fruit, cereal and even some hard boiled eggs, really good. Great experience for a great price. I would definitely go back. ”
“ ROOFTOP BAR REVIEW! I didn't stay here but I went to the rooftop bar and it is worthy of this review! You can see that the rooms would also have incredible views but if the hotel itself is above your budget still be sure to check out The Cellar Bar on the rooftop! I had went to another rooftop bar in Manhattan and was not satisfied and ended up here. It is a very close walk from the subway station in a pretty safe feeling but quiet neighborhood. When I was there it wasn't crowed, there was a live DJ and a very good mix of music to suit anyone. You can walk all the way around the rooftop and see incredible views from any angle. I do believe that this was my favorite spot in the city. We found reclining chairs next to the wall and sat back, relaxed and took the city in. This is a must do for anyone looking for a rooftop experience, I promise you won't be disappointed! There is no cover charge and drinks average around $15 but the view is priceless! I didn't hear a dress code mentioned and most people looked fairly comfortable, no one was particularly overdressed, very laid back bar. ”
“ Lobby and lower lobby bar/lounge/restaurant are great. Love the decor and setup. Staff is very helpful and welcoming. They have a free shuttle that takes you across the bridge and drops you off in the middle of some great shopping and picks you back up. The views are amazing. Rooms are small, the cleaning could have been better, as well as some of the towels and furniture are tattered. ”
“ This nice hotel was great for a short stay. No refrigerator in the room but had a safe. Slanted floor took a little getting used to. Twin bed was very small for me and I'm only 5'6". Great shower! Sink outside the bathroom wasn't a problem just different. Continental breakfast was light but sufficient. ”
